The image of NYPD officers destroying books - tearing down a library - is one which should spark outrage around the world. It is no wonder that the cowardly policemen conducted their raid under the cover of darkness and by suppressing the media so that there would be few or no images of their misconduct.
A culture which would destroy books is a culture which has truly become sickened, twisted, and corrupt.
Book burning? Reminds me of a certain fascist regime…

People probably judge this video before they even watch it. Seems like a celebration of the sort of women who should be admired. I think the ‘Hot Chicks Occupy Wall Street’ title is the problem, but the intentions were well thought out and well executed.
As I said, I am writing this sitting in a place that feels safe to me. I’ve been to Occupy DC several times. People were mostly friendly and it was empowering to be there. But I’ve only gone during broad daylight. I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of spending the night or even staying for evening assemblies that would mean walking back to the subway by myself on darkened, mostly empty downtown streets. For weeks now, a voice in my head has been screaming, “WIMP!”. But as I talk with other women, I realize that I am far from alone and that there is good reason for concern. We have heard from women across the globe who have reported feeling intimidated and uneasy, who have experienced harassment. There have been multiple reports of groping, other forms of sexual assault and harassment and at least four reports of rape.
There is a special level of hell for those that take advantage of a demonstration to rape.

I am not moving - #occupywallstreet is under immediate threat Today, Friday. Please ReBlog this- I have a feeling something major is going to happen. Resistance is NOT Futile!
from the OWS General Assembly: “On October 15th the world will rise up as one and say, “We have had enough! We are a new beginning, a global fight on on all fronts that will usher in an era of shared prosperity, respect, mutual aid, and dignity.”
REBLOG X10000000REBLOG X10000000REBLOG X10000000REBLOG X10000000REBLOG X10000000REBLOG X10000000
I have reblogged this already, pretty sure, but let me add this: the police brutality footage from this movement makes me weep. I am not exaggerating in the least. I am happy that the OWS movement is remaining a peaceful one. I have never thought violent protest could build any kind of progress in this country. They have stayed strong and met the violence with relative calm. We are blessed with great technology to spread this not just to the streets but to our homes, to everyone. I truly believe history and progress is being made with this movement. I have longed for my generation to have a great awakening to bring about political and economic change for years. I am proud and wish I could myself be more involved. I hope this does not stop. Do not move.

Another great OWS video
Jesse Lagreca is becoming a figurehead of the movement whether he likes it or not. Not at all a bad figurehead to have, his eloquence and knowledge is needed.
Occupy Wall Street’s attracted quite the cast of characters—from Jesse LaGreca, “the smartest man on Wall Street,” to Rick Lee, the Hipster Cop. So here’s an extensive guide to the stars of #OWS.
ANIMAL has good video of the “victory march” this morning. You don’t see the punch thrown by a cop at a protestor, but around the 1:30 mark you see what happens right before. Cop asks him to get on sidewalk and within seconds he’s attacked.
At the corner of Maiden and Water Streets I spoke to a National Lawyer’s Guild observer who said she watched a video of a police motorcycle run over another Lawyer’s Guild observer’s leg and then saw with her own eyes that man get pushed to the ground by police, be arrested and get thrown into a police van.
“He’s a legal observer with the National Lawyer’s Guild, he was observing the protest and he was run over by a police motorcycle,” said Zainab Akbar, 31.
Akbar said she watched the entire thing on the video camera of a protester and then watched with her own eyes the end of the incident, with the observer, whom she could only identify as ‘Ari,’ being arrested and put into the back of a police van.
“His leg was stuck under the bike and he kicked his leg to get the bike off his leg and then the police attacked him and shoved him into the ground and put a knight stick against the back of his neck,” Akbar said. This photo was taken by Joe Marino for the Daily News. He’s one of the photographers seen in this photo allegedly just standing there, taking pictures, instead of helping.
Now y’all know why.
Furthermore, 1010 WINS reporter Steve Sandberg (sorry, no link) has natsound of the incident, with the man, pinned under the motorcycle, screaming, in excruciating pain.

Musical Guest of the Day: Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello stopped by Occupy Wall Street today to perform “This Land Is Your Land,” be a general badass.
