Brenden: Desert wanderer, heart squanderer, struggling writer.

David had missed her. He had felt lost the past few weeks. Since he stopped calling her he found everything so boring. He had planned on finishing his book, working to earn the out of state promotion, and saving for that motorcycle he had always wanted. When he walked into that restaurant after walking out from his night job it was for thirst and hunger over food. But she seemed familiar to him, for some reason he thought he had met her before. Was it the way her bright hair seemed to gleam even though it was pinned up? Was it how her eyes squinted behind her little glasses? Was it how her figure fit out the flower covered dress? Was it how she moved her lips writing down an order? Was it her angelic voice chiming into his ear? Yes, he had to ask her out. He did it without hardly even thinking, barely even running through all his goals for himself: more or less blatantly ignoring them. After a few dates, he let himself forget to call her. To visit her or write a letter. This week he realized what a daze he had come accustomed to. He was smoking a cigarette outside and thought about the way her lips had felt on his. He daydreamed over the the way her accent sounded like every word was served gently to him like cake. Next thing he knew, his finger felt burnt. He dropped the spliff down on the asphalt instinctively. He remembered she got off right at eight on Fridays. It was fifteen minutes after that when he knocked on her door. Her smile was what he guessed, her kiss was more than he had hoped for. He wanted her and he knew he had to have her to focus on anything in his life. She was already enriching it more than David would realize for months. Lucky for him, she knew how thick David was.
